Line-up
The band's third album, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet arrangement of the previous albums. It was a more powerful, consistent effort with an edge that was more pronounced than Hydra. The more experimental sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the maturation in the group. Drummer Bobby Kimball's increased proficiency was evident in the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had grown more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard work was also sharper, more complex and less akin to previous recordings.
After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live show in Amsterdam which was released as a two-CD set titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records.
